Beccay,
spontaneously becoming free from nicotine withdrawal. It is scientifically impossible to just not have withdrawals when trying to quit. One point about this you are missing is how chanting for something that you can get by practical steps, what if you can't force yourself to take those practical steps? I say in one respect, self will is an illusion. There is only the Law of cause and effect. If I chant for something, then I will TAKE the practical steps that I could not take before chanting for that. And yes I have used NLP in the past with some decent results, but chant for the thing enough(hours of chanting usually), and I AUTOMATICALLY take the necessary steps. Had a really bad attachment to Christianity, I chanted for several hours and made that go away. That feeling in my chest of being pulled back towards the church(this was several years ago, Christianity looks very alien to me now, but that is because I changed myself on the inside by chanting, I changed my Karma).

Hi Beccay,

I read your comment on my blog (http://purpleverses.com/2010/01/20/nam-myoho-renge-kyo-chanting-for-change/) and just wanted to reply with some thoughts. I believe the point of chanting gives one hope and eventually the will to move on, succeed, etc. It's that increased positive energy/elevation in energy that allows one to attract/create desired results or 'manifestations'. Sometimes when one is in a bad situation like having a terrible bf or no job, as with the case w/ my girlfriend, things have been like that for a long time. I know a lot of people, including myself, that have gotten stuck in less than stellar situations--and I'm not talking a few weeks here, more like many months, maybe even years. So while I agree with you that finding a new home, getting an excellent job, etc are possible tasks, things like depression can set in and doing those possible tasks suddenly become impossible. Some can get so depressed that ending their life becomes palpable...however, if they hit rock bottom and don't end things, the only way to go is up. Anyway, chanting is a form of prayer/meditation. It gets them through the day little by little. I realized when you chant and/or meditate (and do it well with persistence), you clear your mind of things, and usually the first things to go are all the bad, negative thoughts that hinders one's progress in life. Slowly but surely, the negative mind-set starts fading away and sure enough a more positive mind becomes active. At that point, optimism abounds, the glass is half full and the desire to change is in full effect. You finally get the will to leave your boyfriend, get the job (Honda found my girlfriend's resume on a site), move to a great new place... I guess the beauty of it is the synchronicity of it all--one happening after the other, cause and effect. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that when things change for the better, especially when things were at a point bleak or hopeless, that is in and of itself a MIRACLE. I guess my take on the word 'miracle' is making the impossible, possible or wonderful, divine events. So then it's all relative, depending on where you come from, what you believe... but to me, miracles happen everyday. Also just wanted to point out that you don't have to chant for things to happen. But for those who have used it, it was their way to get to their pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. There are many ways to get to your desired result...it ultimately comes down to your beliefs, your positive emotions/energy, and your allowing of it. Thanks for reading my blog post and your comment.

Peace and wellness,

I have been diligently researching this and have not found one example of the manifestation of something that could not have occured through simple, practical effort.

Your girlfriend who found a new place to live...there is nothing special about this. Women find new places to live all the time! Honda offered her a job and a new car. Still this is not unheard of...I know of someone who had the same thing happen to her and while she felt pretty lucky about it, she never chanted to get it.

What I am suggesting is that there is not any proof that chanting brings about these manifestations, or that they are manifestations of will at all. They could be random happenings.

Show me a verifiable story where chanting has produced a miracle...making the impossible, possible and then I will have more questions. Leaving a relationship, finding a new home, getting an excellent job, etc. are all POSSIBLE tasks. I am sure your girlfriend at least had to seek a new home. Somehow, in the physical world, Honda had to have known about her availability and qualifications. And, leaving a bad relationship is not hard if you put your mind to it.

"Letting go" for me is the key point in ur very inspiring article.
Obviously you really worked on urself to rebuild as u said ur faith.
Vincent Van Gogh talking about his life said something similar to u:
"Even the knowledge of my own fallibility cannot keep me from making mistakes. Only when I fall do I get up again."
Unnaturally as it can appear, sometimes you need to hit rock bottom to change what's wrong in ur life and become a better person. In your case you had to fight ur low self esteem and some bad addictions, in order to rebuild to ur faith in urself and in something Greater. Like the Phoenix you rose from ur ashes, and now u have the self esteem and self confidence to share ur journey w/ us, and I find it pretty amazing. I'd like to conclude w/ another quote from Van Gogh, because he has been a really inspiring artist for me, he said:" I am still far from being what I want to be, but with God's help I shall succeed."

David,

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It's so amazing how this chant has changed so many people's lives. I am thrilled that you quit smoking and have a more positive outlook, especially overcoming depression. I struggled with major depression for years so I know what it's like. Isn't it amazing to live like this without harsh chemicals and/or drugs? Keep chanting, stay positive and may many more blessings come your way.

Peace and wellness,
